Quick Updates

First, I apologize to anybody that had issues getting through to the site earlier — Digg overpowered my server and my host took the site offline. Apparently, my “Five Fantastic Flickr Photographers” were just too fantastic. Things are patched up for the time being, but I’ll be working on providing a permanent fix.

Also, I had planned on showing the results from the “Edit My Photo Project” right about now, but I’m postponing the final results until next week. I don’t want the site to get shut down again after I post the project results — the participants deserve full uninterrupted attention. This project has potential to see some significant traffic, because (in my mind) the results are truly remarkable. I hate having to hold it back, but I think it’s the best thing to do at the moment. I’ll also be taking further entries until next Monday (10/15), for anybody that still wants in on it.

And to leave you with a little something, take a look at this video. It’s been around for over a year, but it’s pretty good. The photography in it is great, and the message is strong.

Congratulations on getting dug. sorry to hear that the site wen’t down though. I hope you manage to find a solution soon, and when you do, I’m sure there would be other bloggers out there, like myself, that would be interested toknow where the weak link was and how you fixed it.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the results of your latest project. If they’re as exciting as you say, we should all be in for a very illuminating treat :)

Thanks again for your hard work Brian!

I’ll be sure to mention what happened and what I did to fix it. I’m pretty confident that my new setup will withstand the forces of Digg.

I absolutely appreciate the mention you made of me! As a result of your site being linked to Digg, my Flickr site has been inundated with contact requests.

At first I added everyone that added me, though previously to this I have used the contact function to follow the artists who inspire/interest me. While I’ve linked those I follow most closely on my profile page to make it easy for me to find them (and for others to see where some of my inspiration comes from), I was wondering what Flickr etiquette was regarding contacts?

I was thinking that perhaps you might be able to do a post exploring the social concerns of flickr such as whether comments should be followed up with a comment in return on the commenter’s page, or whether a thanks is enough on the photo that was commented on?

I try to be polite as possible and give back what I receive, though I thought that a more detailed post from someone seemingly heavily involved with the community aspect of photography might be enlightening.

Hey, no problem on the mention — I’ve been following your photos for a little while now, and I’m impressed what you have to show and where you’re heading.

With regard to your question on Flickr etiquette, I’d be glad to write up a post about this. It’s a great idea, and I’ve had to struggle with many of the same questions you’re asking. In fact, I have a special guest blogger working on an article that may just answer your questions. I’ll be sure he reads your comments.

By the way, no promise on when the article will be posted — I tend to schedule things out for 1 or 2 weeks at a time. If you don’t see something in the next week, don’t worry, I didn’t forget.
