87 Great Photography Blogs and Feeds

By Brian Auer • November 7th, 2007
Photography Websites

OK, so this may be a bit overkill, but I wanted to share with you some of my photography feeds that I try to keep up with. I’m subscribed to a little over 200 feeds, and just over half of those are about photography.

Below are 87 of the photography blogs I follow, though some more closely than others. So if you’re looking for more reading material, I’m sure you can find one or two in this list that suit your needs. I tried categorizing everything, but there are several blogs that cover many topics and I was having a hard time coming up with concise categories. So basically, you’ll have to dig around. The blogs I find more interesting are near the top of the list, but it’s not an exact ranking of favoritism.

Subscribe to the Feed

If you’re new to feed reading and the world of RSS, take a look at the Problogger’s explanation of RSS technology. And before you hit this list, DON’T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE TO MY FEED if you haven’t already.

You can also see all of the feeds I subscribe to via my Google Reader shared items for my “Photography” and “Photos” folders (thanks for the idea Bryan). And also many thanks to Alick for putting together an OPML file for those in the list.

UPDATE: I knew this would happen — I forgot one two. Lau reminded me that her site wasn’t in the list, and it IS in my feed reader; has been for some time now. Then Chris mentioned his being missing too. So here’s the 87th +1 and +2 on the list.

  1. Thanks for that list, Brian. I think those lists are a great idea, which will force me to come back. I love the idea of adding rss to them, makes browsing a lot easier for the visitor can easily check if there is valuable content in those sources. From a practical standpoint I think it was a good choice not to describe them all.

  2. Thanks for sharing those links Brian, really good sites (most of them I haven’t vesited before).

Nice new look of your great blog!

  3. Thanks for including me in the list Brian :) I definitely need to take a closer look at that list because it seems like you have a lot of links in your list that I don’t have in mine.

  4. Thanks for the inclusion! Good to know I have atleast one reader :)

I can see a couple of feeds I already check, will checkout the others!

  5. I’ve created the OPML for this great links:
    http://alick.ru/files/epic.opml
And I have the similar link-list (but there are some russian speaking blogs and sites):
    http://alick.ru/files/photosites.opml (http://alick.ru/2007/05/18/p284)
    P.S.: sorry for my english

  6. Hi Brian,
I invite you to check out http://www.digitalprotalk.com - daily updates, packed full of info, and an image a day with background info. Scott Kelby called it one of his top ten “daily must visits.” Take a peek.
Thanks, David Z - fellow blogger

  7. It is one impressive list!

  8. What am I doing at no.64?

Thanks a lot Brian, I recognise a few of those names, but I shall enjoy working my way through the list.

    Cheers :-)

  9. I thought 64 was your favorite number!

Don’t feel too bad — really everything from about 20 or 30 down was kind of a toss-up. I had already put too much time into trying to rank all these, so most of those in the lower list were placed half-randomly. Plus, I tried to put a little more emphasis on the information-type sites, which makes some of the photoblogs drop down a bit.

I hope I’m not hurting anybodies feelings with the placement of links — the intent was really just to share what I’m reading and looking at on a daily basis.

  10. Brian, what I should have said was what am I doing on the list at all?

    That’s what I meant, no I’m perfectly happy with no64 :-)

  11. LOL — I thought you were giving me a hard time!

  12. Thanks for the link buddy! Great list here, definitely some news ones for me to check out. I’m liking the new design as well. Keep up the good work!

  13. Fantastic list Brian. I am incredibly honored to be at #2.
Now to live up to the hype.

  14. :( I didn’t made it in the top 87….

  15. I just noticed that too. I don’t know how I missed it, and after writing up all 87 I was having a hard time remembering who I might have forgotten or left out. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll add you as an aside.

  16. Lau, I just figured out why I missed your site. I was going off the list in my Google Reader and your site shows up as “Digital Photography T…”, which is short for “Digital Photography Techniques”. The one right above it is also “Digital Photography T…”, which is short for “Digital Photography Tips From The Top Floor”. I must have skimmed right over it.

  17. @Alick: Thanks for the OPML file - helped alot when adding the feeds to Google Reader (if you’re like me and can’t be bothered manually adding feeds to your RSS aggregator, most aggregators should support importing - and exporting - OPML files).

  18. @Brian: Do you use Google Reader? Maybe you can publish your Shared Items feed - I’d subscribe to that in a heartbeat.

  19. Hi Brian,

Thanks a lot for the plug.
And once again, this post is a great resource to find new “reads” about our favorite subject.

  20. Thanks for the link, Brian :)

  21. Let this be a motivation to get your butt back in the saddle and start posting again. goldengod was one of my favorites to read when you were posting every day.

  22. Bryan, I’ve updated the post to include my shared feeds. Good idea, thanks.

  23. That’s is a great list.
    Thanks!

  24. @Brian: Yes! You’re a quick one… =)

  25. Hey Bryan thanks a lot for the round-up. There are certainly some sites there that I don’t have in my everyday reading. I was noticing that this post really sorta resembles a post from Chase Jarvis’s Blog (he’s on your list) from a few days ago. Any inspiration?

  26. No problem, James. I saw Chase’s post the other day where he was asking for new reading material. I guess I may have been slightly influenced due to his question, but this is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.

  27. You missed the best of them all:
    http://aphotoeditor.com/

    Jeff

  28. Wow what a list, thanks for this. I will definately be going through this list and subscribing to my ones that attract my attention. My site isn’t there but I wouldn’t expect that. For know I can read and learn more about my favourite subject - photography

  29. Thanks so much for including us in your list Brian! We’re almost certainly the new kid on the block over there, but it feels great to be in the company of the other 86 folks listed, some of which are legendary. Now I’ve got to visit the ones I have yet to see!

  30. http://www.aminus3.com is my favorite

  31. Great list :)

  32. nice, new one using flogr & flick
    http://harvst.com

  33. Hi Brian,

    Thanks for the link.

    Photonovice

  34. Thanks for including me in the list, Brian!

I take it as a challenge to update my photography blog in English more frequently. For everyone’s interest: Those of you who read German are welcome to visit my Schauplatz (Feed).

  35. Thanks for the link Brian, glad you enjoy my site!

  36. Good list, thanks.

  37. Brian, you just keep doing such great things for the photography blogging community! Thank you so much for listing my blog (and so highly!). Recently my feed stats have been showing 20-30 readers, with the link I got from Strobist last week, that went up to 45, but today, with this story being Dugg, my feedburner readership is 69!

Thank you to everyone who has subscribed to my feed. I promise to do my best to bring you interesting and inspiring content.

  38. Brian, this is incredible: I’ve had triple digit referrals from this post, and my subscriber count has shot up: Are you Digg in disguise? :-)

  39. Thanks, this is a great list!

  40. I would like to suggest http://kennykim.com for wedding photography. His blog is at http://www.xanga.com/kennykimdotcom

  41. Gutted I missed the cut, Brian. I’ll do better for next season. ;-)

  42. Dang Chris, I’m sorry. For some reason, I didn’t have you in my feed reader. I do now though.

  43. I am humbled that you included me. Thanks Brian.

This blog has evolved into being one of the first photography blogs I head to each day. You are a great resource.

  44. Thanks Trevor, it’s good to have you as a regular reader and as a friend. We need to get together and go shooting again one of these days.

  45. Dude, still working on that High Sierras landscape outing. You still in?

Oh, yeah, also you should hit the Olvera Street Photowalk. http://www.photowalking.org/2007/11/06/olvera-street-photowalk/

    See you there!

  46. I’m still definitely in for the High Sierras trip. I’ll most likely be at Olvera Street too. I look forward to seeing everybody again.

  47. Nice list! Many I had never seen.

I’ll throw mine in for anyone that likes inspirational photography: http://www.visualforces.com

http://www.chromasia.com is my most favorite photoblog out right now. I’d encourage everyone to take a look. David’s work is breathtaking.

  53. Thanks for sharing. If you don’t mind. I would like to link to your post so that I can share it to others as well.

  54. That’s fine, link away.

  55. What about PDN Pulse, Photo District News’ blog? http://www.pdnpulse.com

  56. I don’t know… Not my taste. it’s just kind of newsy rather than instructional or inspirational. Like I said, these are the items in MY feed reader, so they reflect my own personal interests.

  58. http://www.humanart.cz is good gallery too :)

    Thanks

  60. Antoine, I actually just found your blog today through photographyVoter. If I had visited in the past, it slipped my mind. I did add your blog to my feed reader, though, when I visited earlier. If you visit my shared photography feed items, you’ll see that it’s in there.

  66. Oh, that’s why… I re read your list to make sure I wasn’t missing the obvious… duh, it isn’t a blog. But http://testofwill.blogspot.com/ and http://www.shorpy.com/ are very fine photoblogs, test of will is streetside New York, excellent photos.

  73. Every once in a while someone breaks the convention and changes the way we do things. That´s what iPhone did. It changed the way we use the mobile phone. The “IPP Awards” (IPPA) celebrates the simplicity in design and promotes the appreciation of photography. The IPPA strives to discover emerging talent, and to introduce creativity of iPhone users to the design community.

  122. Finding the right photographer can be a tricky issue. In a sense, you are placing yourself (or a loved one) in someone else’s hands. You want your photography session to be the perfect match to ensure you get the right treatment, value, and of course, results. We are providing a new generation directory http://www.directphotographer.com

  123. Okay…my eyes hurt now. Such awesome links. Thank you for your time and efforts into this :) I think its time for bed now…but I seem to keep wanting to read what the next link can show me.

  125. What a great list! I am an amateur photographer always looking for neat ideas and this list definitely offers that! One of my fave blogs is not listed though is there a reason? http://www.coolphotoideas.com, they always offer really unique ideas!

Thanks for putting this together! Will be sure to share the link!

  126. Thanks Suze! The only reason I hadn’t included Cool Photo Ideas is because I wasn’t aware of them. There are so many great photography sites out there, that I’m sure I’ve only touched on the surface.

  128. Awesome list! Thank you for sharing!

  130. I have been thinking for sometime whether I should be having a blog or not. But now I have finally decided to have a blog. The name of my blog is - My Third Eye. In recent times I have discovered a genuine fondness for photography. Capturing the world and its people in still images is a very difficult task. But right now I am trying. I am serious about this hobby. And I will carry on with it for years to come.

In my new blog I have posted a few pictures that I have taken in recent times. There are four categories. There is also another category which has my sketches. The URL is: http://clickmoments.blogspot.com/

I will be glad if you pay a visit to it and post your thoughts. I hope others will pour their thoughts in soon. You can even vote in the voting machine at the bottom of my blog. You may even be my follower if you want to. By clicking the ‘Follow this blog’ link on the top left of this page, you may add yourself to the list of my followers. I will be extremely glad.

  131. Great list - especially all the Photoshop links. Thanks.

  160. As a former Journalist in the military, I can appreciate any online information about photography.

Most of the developing we required was outsourced due to time restraints and our mission. But I must say that the tech side of photography is something that is ongoing, you have to keep up with the technology! I’ve acquired a lot of information from fellow photographers who have the time to keep up with it.

You’ve got quite an extensive list here, I’ll try to check them all out….

    Thanks for sharing.

  161. Thanks for the great information. As a 20+ year career in professional photography I can really appreciate all the useful resources provided.

  166. It must have taken a quite a while to collect so many photo related sites!

Thanks for the effort and for sharing Brian.

  167. Great list for inspirational readers on photography. Each blog is unique in it’s own way and every time i look at one of their designs, it always blows me away.

  168. Wow - that quite a list. Here’s another one that I pop in to from time to time. Might come in handy for some of your Aussie readers…

    http://www.photographaustralia.com.au

Or you can check out http://www.steveparish.com.au/news

  169. Great list. Just gutted I didn’t find it until now.

  170. With regards Canvas Prints, you should also see http://www.photoimageart.co.uk/ & the blog, http://www.photoimageart.co.uk/canvas-prints-blog/ some really good posts, very good pro custom effects, and loads of info on there.

  171. This is an extensive list and very helpful- Nate

  172. I don’t this this is overkill at all, Brian. I’ve spent years gathering what i believe might be the largest photography related links archive in one place on the web. I have almost 500 links that of course lead to thousands of more links from those sites. You can literally get a free education inside the archive.

The more of us gathering this data, the more help we can offer to photographers like me who can’t afford to pay for that education. I add my thankx to you for taking the time to gather this list.

  173. Help!!! That’s an impressive list - I am going to slowly work my way through them What might have been helpful (to lazy photogs like me) is if you had put in a short synopsis for each? like 140 characters, tweet like?

Aggie, if you ever publish that humongous list please don’t forget the synopsis!

I am not always interested in technical stuff, sometimes I would like to look at what others like me go through on a personal level in their work/careers (in my own blog I hardly write anything about technical stuff).

    Brian, thank you!

  174. Hi Brian. I already have published the archives. Here’s a direct link: http://www.visualartsjunction.com/?page_id=324

That is a fabulous Idea you gave me about adding a description of each link. I haven’t had time, but I have an associate who may be willing to work on it now and again until it’s complete.

Please feel free to copy any of the links you find for your own use (I’m speaking to anyone who reads this too). I am a firm believer that we are all in this together. I don’t appreciate any of that competitive spirit. I’m not talking about disregarding copyrights. I’m also a firm believer in protecting copyrights.

What I speak about is the sharing of information between us all. The internet community is becoming more and more a true and tight knit community. I want to be part of the ones who are here to help each other be our best.

Have the best day ever. And thankx again for the idea.

  175. Great list of photo blogs, gives a lot of ideas for new photographic techniques. Has given me some ideas for my own blog! Thanks for such a great list :)

  176. Hi, this is a great list. The number of photography blogs is exploding, and it’s always nice to have a quick guide to good ones. While I like the synopsis idea, that’s a different article (and a lot more work :). Any plans for an update - two years on from the original publication?

  177. Great list, simply great. One of my favorite Chicago photographers should be listing though… :)
