Birthday Gift #3 Winners

Old Bessie

The third and final Epic Edits Birthday giveaway ended a few weeks back, and I’m finally getting around to publicly announcing the winners. This birthday gift was for 3 analog prints from my darkroom, and the winners were allowed to choose from any of my film shots.

So here are the winners and their choice of prints.

Still Deciding???

For those who didn’t win a free print, I’m considering offering a small selection of 8×10 photos at a VERY low price in the near future — so keep your eyes peeled for that post.

Birthday Gift #3 – Three Analog Prints

Analog Fruits

These are NOT the prints I’m offering, the photo above is just for illustration purposes. Winners of the raffle get to pick ANY photo of mine to be printed.

So… I’ve been wasting spending a lot of time in the darkroom over the last few months, and I think it’s appropriate that I offer up some prints for a birthday present. Here’s the deal — I’ll give out three 8×10 black and white prints, the winners get to choose the photo… any photo. These aren’t pre-printed, so I’ll make the prints once I pick the winners and they choose the photo they’d like. And the catch? Well, the prints won’t be signed and they’re printed on resin coated paper rather than fiber paper.

Metal and Glass It's Lonely Out Here A Dreary World Cruisers Subway Shuffle Rescue Board

What’s all that mean? They’re basically just decoration photos — they’re not worth much from a collector standpoint. I’ve already decided that I won’t sign anything but fiber paper. It doesn’t mean that the prints won’t look good or last quite a while. It just means that they’re not signed, limited, and guaranteed to last longer than you. So if you’re up for a free decoration print, feel free to browse my stuff on Flickr:

Take your pick, anything goes… except for photos of my family and stuff. The b/w photos will look pretty close to what you see on Flickr. The green xpro photos tend to turn out pretty cool too — really high contrast. I didn’t include regular color film in the links because it doesn’t turn out well when printed in b/w.

TO ENTER THE RAFFLE…

Just leave a comment on this post and let me know you’d like a print of your choice. Worldwide raffle entries are welcome. I’ll choose the three random winners in one week from this post date.

And I’d appreciate hearing from you which print you might like to have. This type of feedback is useful to me so I can better understand what people are interested in. And if you’re looking for a signed limited print… I just might offer up one of those in another post… who knows?

Birthday Gift #2 – Three Equipment Rentals

The second gift for the birthday party will be camera equipment… but you have to give it back. Yup, three lucky winners will get their choice of equipment rentals from BorrowLenses.com.

BorrowLenses.com

BorrowLenses.com offers up a rental service for photographers in the United States. You can get a wide selection of lenses and camera bodies for the Canon and Nikon systems, along with things like tripods, camera bags, and lighting equipment.

For the birthday party, they’re giving out three two-week rentals. Here are the terms and conditions attached to the offer:

  • You need to be in the US.
  • The order will need to be made online and you will need to provide a credit card number. This won’t be charged but they will need it to ensure you don’t run off with their lens :-) BorrowLenses.com is a reputable business but if you don’t feel comfortable with this condition please don’t enter.
  • The offer excludes super telephoto lenses and pro camera bodies.

… so anything else is game!

TO ENTER THE RAFFLE…

Same as the last one — leave me a comment and let me know you’d like to be entered. REMEMBER — this offer is limited to US participants and it excludes pro bodies and super-telephoto lenses. I would highly encourage you to visit their site and browse their inventory before entering the giveaway. And if you’re not a Canon or Nikon user, you might consider picking up a rental for a tripod, camera bag, or lighting equipment. The winners will be randomly chosen one week from the date of this post.

Birthday Gift #1 – Two Flickr Pro Accounts

January 12 marked the 2 year birthday of Epic Edits… and January 14 marked the beginning of my (much needed) vacation. So needless to say, we’ll be kicking off the birthday gifts a few weeks late this year.

To start things off, Antoine from All Day I Dream About Photography (or ADIDAP for us regulars) will be giving away the gift of Flickr with a Flickr Pro Account! Antoine also has a great Flickr Group where you can submit photos to be eligible for his yearly calendars. And Flickr Pro is such a great gift, I’m handing out a second to match Antoine! Here’s what you’ll get with a Flickr Pro Account:

  • Unlimited Storage
  • Unlimited Bandwidth
  • Unlimited Photo Sets
  • The Use of Collections
  • Ad-Free Interface
  • Photo Statistics
  • Video Uploads

TO ENTER THE RAFFLE…

All you have to do is leave a comment telling me that you’d like to be eligible for one of the two Flickr Pro Accounts. The winners will be chosen randomly from the comments and I’ll announce them after one week — so don’t miss out and leave a comment!

Seeking Sponsors for the 2-Yr BDay Party

The day is approaching… Epic Edits is about to turn 2 years old! January 12 marks the occasion, and I’m thinking we should do something similar to last year: give out some birthday presents!

I’ve got a few sponsors already lined up, but more certainly won’t hurt. So if you, or anybody you know, might be interested in sponsoring a gift giveaway, drop me a note or leave a comment here on this post. Each sponsor will get their own post with personal or business information and links to relevant websites.

Last year we had things like Flickr Pro accounts, Amazon giftcards, prints, photo books, and more. The prizes don’t have to be elaborate or expensive — every little thing will be greatly appreciated.

Birthday Party Winners Announced!

Birthday Winners

After seven days of gift announcements, I had my work cut out for me trying to keep track of the raffle entries. In total, we had 97 people enter into one or more prize raffles! Those same 97 people left a total of 405 comments during the month of January, and let me tell ya… it was a real treat doing the tally. I’m only sorry I couldn’t share the joy and excitement of such a task.

Once the tally was complete, it was just a matter of cross referencing the comments with each of the seven raffles, assigning a raffle ticket to each person for each raffle they entered, and generating some random numbers. The raffle drawing went through without any issues or glitches, and we ended up with seven lucky winners.

I must say, you guys are all so awesome for showing such interest in the blog (and the prizes). I saw a lot of new names showing up, and I’m glad that those folks stepped forward and gave a holler. In the end, there could only be seven prize winners, but all of you are winners in my eyes! I’ve already contacted the lucky ones via email, but for the rest of you here are the results.

And here are a few numbers and graphs having to do with the raffle. This first chart shows that the most popular prizes were the Art Print and the Amazon Gift Card, followed by the Flickr Pro Account and the Photo Book. I’m flattered that so many of you opted for my photo and my photo book!

This histogram shows how many comments people left on the blog during the entire month. You can see that a majority of the raffle entrants left 5 or fewer comments. You can also see that only a handful of people left more than 15 comments over the course of the month.

In this next histogram, I’ve removed the raffle entry comments (the ones where you had to leave a key phrase in the message). The chart shows the remaining comments left by the entrants, in other words the “true” comments. You can see that a significant number of comments and entrants are completely removed from the chart, meaning that this group of entrants only left comments to enter themselves into the raffle (nothing wrong with that though!).

I’m not sure that any of this is terribly useful… I just kind of get carried away with spreadsheets and charts sometimes (it’s not my fault, I’m an engineer). At any rate, I’d like to thank everybody who participated in this thing, especially the sponsors who stepped forward with the extra prizes — All Day I Dream About Photography, Image Keyworder, and Top Hosting Center.

And you’re all invited to next year’s party!

Birthday Gift #7 – Free Web Hosting

The seventh birthday gift for our one-year party will be 3 months of free web hosting provided by Top Hosting Center, and instigated by our buddy Antoine. Here’s what they’re offering up for one raffle winner:

Top Hosting Center Logo
  • 10 GB HDD Space
  • 10 GB Bandwidth
  • 10 MySQL
  • 10 Domains
  • 10 Sub-Domains
  • 10 Emails
  • 10 FTP Users
  • NO Free Domain Name

This could be a great way to get yourself started with a new website to test the waters. If you find out that websites are too much hassle or if it’s just not your thing, at least it didn’t cost you any hosting money!

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “FREE HOSTING” in the comment somewhere. And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.

Also, check the main Birthday Party page to see all of the prizes being offered. And if you have a prize you’d like to give away for the birthday party, let me know!

Birthday Gift #5 – A Free .com Domain

The fifth Birthday Gift will not be a kidney (sorry to disappoint, Phill). Actually, Antoine Khater from All Day I Dream About Photography is offering up a one year .com domain name registration for the birthday raffle. What could you do with a domain name? Maybe you could start up that website you’ve had in the back of your mind. You could join the ranks of photography bloggers and photobloggers, or maybe you could start up a blog on a totally different topic. Heck, you could even get your own name if somebody else hasn’t done so already.

It seems like everybody has a website of sorts nowadays, so why not join in? Or if you have, and you’re like me, you could always find a use for another domain name… I think I’m up to six or seven of them now (although not all of them are being used).

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “FREE DOMAIN” in the comment somewhere. And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.

Birthday Gift #4 – My First Photobook

If you thought one photo was a fun idea for a birthday present, then how about 25!? Prior to Christmas, I put together a photo book of my favorite photos and sent a few of them out to my family for the holidays. I had six books printed, and I shipped two of them to myself. I’m keeping one on my bookshelf, and the other one will be shipped off to one of you!

So like I said, this book is one of only six in existence (and I probably won’t be printing anymore). Not only that, but it will be the ONLY signed copy of the book out there — nobody else got the signed version.

Granted, the print quality is not quite at the level of the art print from yesterday, but it’s honestly not bad. I bought the book through Shutterfly, and I was pretty impressed with the overall ease of use, pricing, speed to fill the order, and the very decent quality of the book that arrived.

The book is 8-1/2″ by 11″ and you can see a preview of the contents in the embedded Quicktime movie above (feed readers will probably need to visit the site to see it). You can see that they have several options for layouts, and I didn’t even use a fraction of them. These books are a pretty neat way to gather up a group of your photos and put them all in one place.

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “PHOTO BOOK” in the comment somewhere. And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.

Birthday Gift #3 – A Print of Your Choice

Photo prints are great. They’re SO much better than looking at a low-res image on a computer monitor. There’s something magical about holding a high quality photo in your hands and admiring it. If you haven’t experienced it yet, you’re missing out bigtime.

Today’s Birthday Gift will be one free print of mine — any size (10″, 16″, or 24″), any photo, professionally printed, and unframed (sorry, but that stuff is really spendy). The sizes are determined by the longest side of the photo dimensions, so a 10″ panorama and a 10″ square-crop will still be no more than 10″ wide or tall. You can browse through my ImageKind galleries to make your selection, or you can look through my Flickr photos if you want a wider array of choices. I’m offering up my Flickr photos because I’m still in the (very long) process of uploading images to ImageKind and preparing them for sale.

And if you’d like to purchase a print without waiting for the prize to be announced, now is a good time to do so. Come February, prices will be increasing due to the launch of the Fine Art Photoblog. But until that happens, I’ll keep my prices down where they’re at. You can also purchase a wide selection of framing and matting, custom fit for that image, right there on ImageKind.

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “ART PRINT” in the comment somewhere (all caps certainly helps me pick out your entry in my email, but it’s not required). And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.
