Birthday Gift #5 – A Free .com Domain

The fifth Birthday Gift will not be a kidney (sorry to disappoint, Phill). Actually, Antoine Khater from All Day I Dream About Photography is offering up a one year .com domain name registration for the birthday raffle. What could you do with a domain name? Maybe you could start up that website you’ve had in the back of your mind. You could join the ranks of photography bloggers and photobloggers, or maybe you could start up a blog on a totally different topic. Heck, you could even get your own name if somebody else hasn’t done so already.

It seems like everybody has a website of sorts nowadays, so why not join in? Or if you have, and you’re like me, you could always find a use for another domain name… I think I’m up to six or seven of them now (although not all of them are being used).

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “FREE DOMAIN” in the comment somewhere. And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.

Also, check the main Birthday Party page to see all of the prizes being offered. And if you have a prize you’d like to give away for the birthday party, let me know!

Birthday Gift #4 – My First Photobook

If you thought one photo was a fun idea for a birthday present, then how about 25!? Prior to Christmas, I put together a photo book of my favorite photos and sent a few of them out to my family for the holidays. I had six books printed, and I shipped two of them to myself. I’m keeping one on my bookshelf, and the other one will be shipped off to one of you!

So like I said, this book is one of only six in existence (and I probably won’t be printing anymore). Not only that, but it will be the ONLY signed copy of the book out there — nobody else got the signed version.

Granted, the print quality is not quite at the level of the art print from yesterday, but it’s honestly not bad. I bought the book through Shutterfly, and I was pretty impressed with the overall ease of use, pricing, speed to fill the order, and the very decent quality of the book that arrived.

The book is 8-1/2″ by 11″ and you can see a preview of the contents in the embedded Quicktime movie above (feed readers will probably need to visit the site to see it). You can see that they have several options for layouts, and I didn’t even use a fraction of them. These books are a pretty neat way to gather up a group of your photos and put them all in one place.

SO REMEMBER…

Birthday Gift #3 – A Print of Your Choice

Photo prints are great. They’re SO much better than looking at a low-res image on a computer monitor. There’s something magical about holding a high quality photo in your hands and admiring it. If you haven’t experienced it yet, you’re missing out bigtime.

Today’s Birthday Gift will be one free print of mine — any size (10″, 16″, or 24″), any photo, professionally printed, and unframed (sorry, but that stuff is really spendy). The sizes are determined by the longest side of the photo dimensions, so a 10″ panorama and a 10″ square-crop will still be no more than 10″ wide or tall. You can browse through my ImageKind galleries to make your selection, or you can look through my Flickr photos if you want a wider array of choices. I’m offering up my Flickr photos because I’m still in the (very long) process of uploading images to ImageKind and preparing them for sale.

And if you’d like to purchase a print without waiting for the prize to be announced, now is a good time to do so. Come February, prices will be increasing due to the launch of the Fine Art Photoblog. But until that happens, I’ll keep my prices down where they’re at. You can also purchase a wide selection of framing and matting, custom fit for that image, right there on ImageKind.

SO REMEMBER…

If you want in on this one for the raffle, leave a comment on this post with the phrase “ART PRINT” in the comment somewhere (all caps certainly helps me pick out your entry in my email, but it’s not required). And don’t forget that every comment you make for the entire month of January (on any post) will count as a raffle entry for this and the other giveaways.

Birthday Gift #2 – An Amazon Gift Card

Amazon is a great place to pick up photography gear, photo software, and (of course) books about photography. I find that they typically have the best prices around unless the dedicated photography stores are running a special on certain items. Not only that, but they’re a very trusted source and I have no problem handing over my credit card number to them.

So today’s Birthday gift will be a $25 Amazon Gift Card that you can use toward your next purchase. Now I realize that you can’t get a whole lot for $25, but there are always those little items that you can pick up like a lens cloth, rocket blaster, beanbag, tabletop tripod, magazine, flash diffuser, or even a book. Or you could use it toward your next big purchase of a camera or lens.

And while you’re waiting for the winner of the gift card to be announced, you could browse through the Epic Edits Goodie Bag to pick out your next Amazon purchase (or you could just order it now and hope that you win the gift card later ;) ).

SO REMEMBER…

Epic Edits 1-Year Birthday Party!

It’s hard to believe, but we’re ONE year old today! And what a year it’s been too! So rather than rehash the site stats or most popular articles, I think we’ll throw a party and hand out some gifts. Plus, you can see those stats and articles in my post titled “2007: A Great Year of Photography and Blogging.”

You guys are the best audience ever. You’re actually more of a community than an audience, and I’m really blessed to be surrounded by so many great people. To show my appreciation, I’ll be handing out some cool prizes to you guys.

THE PRIZES

I’ll announce four different prizes over the next four days, starting tomorrow. If you want to have a chance at that gift, just drop a COMMENT ON THE SPECIFIC GIFT ANNOUNCEMENT POST and let me know you want it. Only those who enter themselves will be included in the raffle, so don’t forget to leave the comment! Here are the four prizes being handed out:

So if any of these things are of interest to you, click through to the page and read the directions for the raffle entry.

HOW TO WIN

Prizes will be raffled off, and each comment you leave (and those you’ve already left) for the entire month of January will count as one raffle ticket. This is why it’s important to let me know that you want the prize given for that particular day, because then I have to keep track of your comments and mark you down for an entry into that raffle. You can enter into as many prizes as you want, but you can only win one.

Prizes will be raffled off in early February. If you win one of them, you won’t be eligible for the remaining raffles. So don’t enter for the prizes that you really don’t want. If you don’t win the first one, your entries will carry over into the next raffle.

So keep your eye on the blog and subscribe to the feed if you haven’t already. The prize posts over the next four days won’t be showing up on the front page, so make sure you check the recent posts in the sidebar or keep up via the feed.

WANT TO HELP?

If anybody else wants to contribute to the prize pool and extend the giveaway, contact me by email with your idea. It doesn’t have to be anything big or expensive, and I’ll post your gift on day 5, 6, 7, etc and give you full credit for contributing. It would certainly be appreciated, but it’s not expected of anyone — the main idea of this birthday party is to GIVE OUT some presents!
